How to Feel Satisfied in Your Career

By Steve Brunkhorst Many people turn a beloved hobby into a vocation. They have a gift, a talent screaming for expression. It means doing something that they love. At last, they feel empowered. However, this newfound empowerment is inside the person, not in the changing of careers. How can you feel empowered if you are already successful in your work but feel discontent? You must recognize and feel the value within you and your work every day! A colleague and I were presenting a workshop on career satisfaction to a group of health-care staff members. His segment, “Feeling Empowered in Your Career”, and my following segment, “Empowerment in Words and Actions”, complimented each other splendidly. A majority of the participants had indicated before the workshop that they were happy with their career choice. Their need was to feel more contentment during the workday. Many felt isolated or emotionally distant from co-workers. They felt successful but not content. They all believed that their work was highly valuable. However, as one participant said, “I don’t feel connected to the people I work with or feel enough satisfaction in the value that I provide.” There is a big difference between believing in something and deeply experiencing the same thing. An old expression suggests, “It will not help to believe in ladders unless you climb one.” Many people are highly skilled, successful, and competent in their work. They are intellectually aware of their value. However, they do not experience the internal satisfaction and contentment that they want and deserve. How can we experience the most contentment and satisfaction in our careers? Here are several key ideas to remember. 1. First, check your motivations for being in your career. Success is the result of skills, actions, and choices. It is not a mandate to remain in one place. You can be successful in many different endeavors depending on your motivations, interests, and natural gifts. Use an assessment such as the complimentary MAPP found at http://www.achieveezine.com/resources/ to check your motivations. Your personalized MAPP reveals whether your true motivations match your work. It also uncovers unique talents and interests. 2. Start with your desired result. Notice how the participant’s words focused on not feeling connected. After that gap has been acknowledged, it is time to shift focus. We move toward the object of our primary attention. It may seem backwards, but begin at the end. Imagine and focus on what contentment would feel like for you as though you already have it. 3. Catch a partner or co-worker doing something great each day. Verbally acknowledge the dedication and value that they contribute. Use sincere words and actions to show colleagues that they are valuable. Share your goals with others, and express sincere appreciation for their participation. As children, we learned to communicate and relate to others by participating in a mutual action-speaking environment. We did not simply listen and respond. We built trust-worthy relationships by joining with adults and peers in cooperative activities that matched words and feelings with action. Showing appreciation for others will reflect back and enrich your experiences. 4. Seek constructive suggestions from both co-workers and clients. Dive right into the experience of value, and acknowledge constructive suggestions with gratitude. Focus on your value by challenging yourself to make improvements each day. 5. Put your value into positive-action words. Then catch yourself in the actions. Our words, actions, and focus of attention will pull us toward the contentment we seek. Journal your experiences of providing value. Review them frequently. 6. Nourish and maintain yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually. Discontentment may be a warning sign of burn out. Get regular medical checkups and follow a balanced lifestyle for maximum wellness. Daily periods of relaxation and meditation are important for renewal and wellbeing. Leo Buscaglia wrote, “The majority of us lead quiet, unheralded lives as we pass through this world. There will most likely be no ticker-tape parades for us, no monuments created in our honor.” Yet we can be both successful and content with our lives and careers. We create the most meaningful monuments from the love and enthusiasm we have for our work. Create a monument everyday by doing what you love and focusing on the value you bring to others. Acknowledge also the value that others contribute to your life and career. These actions coupled with a healthy, balanced lifestyle can add contentment and improved relationships to your career beginning today. © Copyright 2005 by Steve Brunkhorst. Problems Arising Out Of Laparoscopic Gastric Banding

By Donald Saunders Although a quite new form of weight loss surgery, laparoscopic gastric banding (and in particular the use of the adjustable lap band approved for use in the United States in 2001) is growing rapidly in popularity due in part to its relatively low level of risk and post-operative complication. In many circles this is giving rise to the view that laparoscopic gastric banding is a simple procedure which can be chosen without too much forethought. Nothing could be further from the truth. Laparoscopic gastric banding is major surgery and, while it may well be safer than many other forms of surgery, it still carries a number of risks and complications which need to be fully understood and considered before any decision to have surgery is made. The risks and complications (in addition to the general risks associated with any form of major surgery) can be divided into four main groups: Band Specific Risks. Laparoscopic gastric banding involves the placement of a band around the upper section of the stomach and, in the case of adjustable banding, the placement of an access port just under the skin through which the restriction produced by the band can be adjusted, together with a length of tubing joining the access port and the band. Problems with the band assembly can include slippage of the band, erosion of the band into the stomach wall, mechanical malfunction (leakage from the inner inflatable ring, access port or tubing), displacement of the access port or pain in the area around the access port. In addition some patients may experience an allergic reaction to the material of the band assembly itself. Laparoscopic Risks. Laparoscopy can sometimes result in electrical burns causing perforation to organs within the abdomen and to peritonitis. Patients may also react to the gas needed to inflate the stomach for surgery, particularly where the patient already suffers from a pulmonary disorder. Scar tissue from previous abdominal surgery can also pose a risk. Digestive Problems. Laparoscopic gastric banding can give rise to a variety of digestive problems which will range from the quite mild to the very severe and can include nausea and vomiting, regurgitation, difficulty swallowing, blockage of the passage between the two sections of the stomach, constipation and diarrhea. General Complication. Finally, there is a long list of general problems reported by laparoscopic gastric banding patients including abdominal pain, chest pain, pain at the site of the operation incisions, fever, infection, hernia, gastritis, pancreatitis, flatulence, belching, esophageal ulcers, hematemsis, dyspepsia and dehydration. All of these risks must of course be viewed in context and, for the vast majority of people suffering from morbid obesity, the benefits of laparoscopic gastric banding will be considered to outweigh the risks. Nevertheless, these risks are very real and should be discussed in detail with your surgeon before you reach any decision. Depression Hurts, but You can Beat It at Its Game

By Foras Aje Thank God we have problems. No, that is not a misprint friend. It is true. Why? Because it means we are still alive and guess what, it means you are being made stronger. Granted, we all have problems, some big, some small; all a source of worry, anxiety and maybe even sadness. It is part of living. The truth is it is how we handle our difficulties and problems that can make or break us as humans. Difficulties should act as a spur for action, according to Charles de Gaulle: “Difficulties attracts the man of character because it is in embracing it that he realizes himself!” As powerful a grip as depression may have on you, as much as depression hurts and can make things seem hopeless, remember the quote above and make the steps to belittle the strength of this enemy of your happiness, before this foe called depression hurts you. I believe its been said that we only use about 10% of our brain and maybe even less when it comes to our problems, which in turn aggravates how much depression hurts or seems to affect us. If you truly look within and reach for the strength that lies inside of all of us, you will see that most problems are really only bigger than what they are. Truthfully we magnify their effects with pessimistic and hopeless thoughts. Okay, Mr. Big Shot, you tell me how to go about overcoming my depression I will do my best for you my friend, but promise that you will try what I tell you. To lessen the pain of depression and your problems, here are some tips for you. 1. Think positively thoughts as much as is humanly possible. Always believe there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Remember: As a man thinks in his heart, so is he If you think it that things will improve, fate and the life forces around will be at your disposal to aid you to succeed. 2. Watch what you utter and try as much as possible to say positive things about your life, the cause of your depression and situations. Death and Life is in the power of your tongue (words), those who love its fruits (aware of its consequences) will eat from it. (enjoyor well if negative, not enjoyit) Speak to your situation by repeating positive affirmation aloud. 3. Assess your problems and DO something about it. Try to figure out why it Occurred in the first place, learn from the situation and take the lesson as a learning experience you can draw from to make things better in the future. Now, since a common symptom of depression is a feeling of worthlessness, why not increase your self-worth and confidence by making yourself healthier. A healthy body equates to a healthy mind, and a healthy mind, friends, is a powerful one. Stronger than any hurt depression could bring your way, stronger than your problems, stronger than your pains. But, like any muscle, youve got to work at it to make it strong. I mentioned getting healthy. Well we all know how; through a proper diet and exercise. The former will nourish and make you literally feel great and the latter, especially in regards to depression will exercise the motor centers of the brain, making the blood flow away from the emotional activity center; consequently you become more receptive to positive thoughts, which by the way is the first step to healing depression there is a quote that supports this, it goes-Be transformed by the renewing of your thoughts Say that over and over, until it seeks into your subconscious. For those who believe in the existence of the Unseen yet the Omnipotent and Present OneGod. A simple and straightforward prayer asking for His help can and will soothe the pain and challenges we may have to face in our lives. He has promised us two things when it comes to facing life’s ups and downs: “He will never give us more than we can handle” and to “Fear not for I am with thee, be not dismayed for I am thy God, I will help thee and strengthen and I will uphold you with my victorious right Hand!”. Indeed, these are powerful verses to keep in mind in coping with depression. Im not saying things will be instantly better, hey Rome wasnt built in a day friends. With anything in life, you have to work-not necessarily hard at it-but smarter and we all know you only get out of something what you put into it-actually, a lot more. Depression hurts, we know that; but now YOU can beat depression because you are stronger! You can make it if you try. Foras Aje is an independent health researcher and founder of Bodyhealthsoul.com. Fair credit reporting act allows you to get any false bad credit information corrected. Credit score is used to detect bad credit. Here is a general description of how credit scores are read. The criteria may vary from lender to lender. Credit grade A+ to A- credit score of 660 to 670 or above. This means excellent credit. No credit problems from 2 to 5 years and no bankruptcy for the last 2-10years. Credit grade B+ to B- credit score of 620 with no sixty day mortgage lates and 24-48 months since bankruptcy discharge. Credit grade C+ to C- credit score of 580 with late payments, any late payment within 30-90 day range. This will include 12-24 months since bankruptcy discharge. Credit grade D+ to D- credit score of 550 with Lots of missed payments and 12 months since bankruptcy discharge. Credit grade E credit score of 520 or lower. This score is for a possible current bankrupt with poor payment record of many 30, 60 or 90 days late. 500-550 is bad credit. When a loan application is received, it is the standard practice of the lender or credit providers to check credit. They can very easily verify credit information and see if you have bad credit. The Causes Of Obesity

By Jeff Foster Far and away, the most common cause for obesity is unhealthy eating habits combined with an overall lack of any type of physical activity. If the food that you consume results in intaking more calories than you burn, you body opens up the ol’ store room and puts it away as fat. Very basic, simplified concept… but that’s the bottom line. Bad eating habits are by far the number one reason why people head down the path to obesity. With today’s emphasis on time and convenience when it comes to eating and planning one’s meals it is no wonder at all that obesity is propagating throughout the entire world. And that’s just the diet side of the equation… throw in the fact that with all of today’s other conveniences, people get less and less activity in their daily routine and you’ve got a world wide health issue developing. When it comes to genetics; you can be more naturally susceptible to obesity and being overweight if it runs in the family. But having said this, it is still up to you to control your eating habits and your lifestyle in order to effectively keep obesity at bay. As I mentioned just a bit early, personal time and convenience combined together more often than not add up to junk food. If you find that you are eating out more than you should, you should start looking at what you are about to eat. For instance, fast food and restaurant food’s portioning are usually way more than your body needs… not to mention the type of food. A single burger in and of itself is a complete meal as far as your body is concerned because of the fat and calories involved. The problem is your stomach will not ‘feel’ full after consuming but one singe burger… so it cries out for more… regardless of the fact that your body is at it’s maximum. If you want more volume… eat healthier foods to begin with. Changing your eating habits is a much better mind set to get into than ‘dieting’. The problem with the ‘dieting’ mentality is that most people will tend to lose a few pounds on their latest ‘diet’ but return to their old destructive eating habits once they get bored or constantly inconvenienced with the diet. Then to add another layer of difficulty, once you go from diet to diet restricting your body from nutrients; your body will go into a defensive mode storing everything that it possibly can and make it even more difficult for you to lose weight. Any successful ‘diet’ is actually a successful ‘lifestyle’ change… which by the way includes exercise. Forbidding yourself from certain foods that you enjoy immensely just makes them all the more attractive to you. So, think lifestyle and not so much diet. Work to eat healthier, and keep those ‘forbidden’ foods moderated and proportioned… and get some regular exercise. Not only does exercise withdraw those calories from your body’s storage bank; but you’ll feel better, reduce your boredom, your stress level, and those cravings. How To Use Law Of Attraction Weight Loss

By Hanif Khaki How does law of attraction work in relation to weight loss? In the simplest terms, Law of Attraction states that like attracts like and whatever thoughts and feelings you focus on the the most will literally determine your future. But how can law of attraction weight loss work? You will find that the law of attraction has been working for you and every other person in this world since the beginning of time and it is only recently that education about its incredible power has become readily available to the general public. So how can the Law of Attraction can help someone to lose weight? It is quite simple really, all they need to do is think about it. In fact without even knowing about it, most people really do not think about what they want but they think more about the fact that they do not have it. So by going back to the definition of Law of Attraction, you will see that the reason why people do not have the things that they want, is simply because all they ever do is think about NOT having them. Unfortunately this same concept applies to weight loss just as it applies to everything else, and although a lot of people want to lose weight, they would rather think about how miserable they are because they have not lost the weight, rather than the wonderful life they will have once they’re thinner. Again let us refer back to the Law of Attraction. If you think you are miserable, sad, guilty or have low self esteem then the Law of Attraction will bring you more things to be miserable about rather than good things. In fact the more miserable you are about something, for example, weight loss, then the more powerfully you will attract more of the same since that is where you are focusing your thoughts. Utilizing the power of the Law of Attraction for weight loss, you simply stop thinking about your situation in the negative manner and start having positive thoughts instead. As you can imagine, this is more difficult than it sounds, just ask anyone who’s tried it. To be truly successful as many others are, you need the help of proper tools that allow you to automate the law of attraction as much as possible. There is no doubt the law works, it’s simply a matter of taking advantage of the available tools to make it easier. TMI: The Resume Destroyer

By Pierre Daunic They say my rsum should be only one page long. Is that correct? Not necessarily. Many rsums are rightly two, three, or even more pages in length. On the other hand, many rsums are far longer than necessary. Carelessly written, they contain TMIToo Much Informationand that mind-numbing surplus can damage or destroy a rsums ability to generate a job interview. Here are some tips to help you avoid that possibility: Eliminate fluff. Some of us use bloated, hackneyed, or empty phrasing that just takes up space. For example, a rsums objective might say something like Accomplished Mechanical Engineer seeks an upwardly mobile, challenging position in a growing company. Better: A continuing career in Mechanical Engineering. Be ruthless in cutting out language that serves no plausible purpose. Weed out the unnecessary. Few readers enjoy plowing through overly detailed job descriptions on a rsum. Make sure your duties, responsibilities, and achievements are described in only as much detail as necessary. Avoid flop-overs. Save space better used elsewhere by rewriting sentences or paragraphs that end with only a few words on the next line or on the next page. Not only will your writing look neater, but you may also save space better used elsewhere. Downplay old experience. In most cases, the last 10 15 years of our work experience are the most relevant to our next job. Showcase your skills and achievements in that span in as much detail as prudent. Then, shorten earlier job descriptions accordingly. Use bullets. Use bullets (but not too many) to describe achievements or skill sets because They often take up less space. They allow you to prioritize more easily. They grab the readers attention. (See?) Use different formatting. Change the top, side, and bottom margins to as little as one half inch if appearance permits. Or reduce the size of your text font to 10 point (but no smaller). Or try using a font like Garamond instead of Times New Roman: it will take up less space. Or try using a condensed font such as Weissach Condensed. A little experimentation will probably yield big results; however, whether you use these suggestions or others, just make sure readability is not harmed. Delete References Furnished on Request. Often found at the end of a rsum, the phrase has little importance. If an employer wants references, he will ask for them anyway. Utilizing the tips above, you may be able to reduce the length of your rsum by a page or more without sacrificing meaning, impact, or readability. In fact, when your copy is clear, concise, and properly formatted, it gives you more space to set forth your skills and achievements in a professional and well-appreciated fashion. Try ityoull see what I mean! Pierre Daunic, senior consultant for R.L. Stevens & Associates Inc. 5% Down Vs. 10% Down – A Comparison

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=John_Carle]John Carle It has always been an issue for home buyers to save their down payment. Many people, on advice from various people wait to save 10%, rather than moving into the home sooner with 5% as a down payment This is not always a good idea. Let me explain; We have 2 young couples, the Jones’ and the Smiths. They both have the same amount of money to spend on housing and saving ($1000/month). From that $1000, they are paying their rent of $750/month, and saving the other $250 for their down payment. In fact they’re identical people. The Jones’ and the Smiths are both looking to buy a $100,000 property. As such, they will need $5000 as a down payment if they purchase at 5% down, or $10,000 if they wish to have 10% as a down payment. To date, they have both saved $5000 with which to purchase a property. The Jones’ have decided to buy now and accept that they only have 5% as a down payment The Smiths’ have decided to wait until they can raise 10%; thus saving themselves some CMHC costs. What the Smiths’ aren’t realizing is that while they wait, the cost of the property is increasing… thus incrasing the amount of money they need as a downpayment. They’ve also not taken into account that the money they are paying in rent is being thrown away, while they could have been putting that against their mortgage. Sure, saving the CMHC fees is a good idea. But is it necessarily the right way to go? Not always. If it takes the Smiths an extra 2 years to save up the extra money, the property could have increased by as much as $15,000 in that time…. meaning that they’d need more of a down payment, as well as having a larger mortgage than if they’d bought earlier. If you’d like to read this article in full, including graphs showing the difference between the Smith’s and the Jones’ then go to our website at [http://www.workingtogether.ca ]www.workingtogether.ca and review the article titled “5% Down Vs. 10% Down – A Comparison”. Gestures You Can Perform to Avoid A Police Stop

By Robert Davis Hello and greetings to all, This particular article could help you avoid a police stop. It may seem stupid or even ridiculous, but to an officer it says a lot. A police officer is constantly on the look out for one thing: OUT OF NORM. He is looking for things, events, drivers, pedestrians, and people that are out of place or out of norm. While a police officer, and through talking with fellow cops after major arrests or a major bust, we would share with each other how stupid the driver or pedestrian was just before we arrested him or her. You see, in countless situations the perpetrator ‘helped’ us make the arrest. Here are a few examples: A sudden slow down in speed, a sudden changing of lanes (especially a lane change to turn), an adjustment of the rearview mirror, suddenly rolling your window down ( to air out the vehicle), constant head turning, and constant braking. All of these will get an officers’ attention in a hurry. Well, now that you know that, here are a few things to keep in mind while driving near a police unit. First be normal. Whatever behavior that you normally exhibit while driving, don’t change. Second, drive as if the police unit is not there, in other words, concentrate on something else. Third, if you can’t relax or concentrate, pull into a service station, a post office, a store , or any public place and resume driving later. Now here’s my best. When I saw this, I would never stop that vehicle. I hope I can explain this accurately. Place your right hand on the steering wheel (at the 12 o’clock position), take your left elbow and situate it on your door window sill, take your left hand and scratch your head, play with your hair, or if you’re bald, rub your scalp. I can’t explain it, but this action appears so normal and innocent that it has always cause me to look elsewhere. I believe that it says, I’m not a criminal or violator. I hope this article gives you a clue as to how simple gestures and moves makes a difference to a police officer. As many of you know, my mission in life is to reveal unfair police tactics and procedures. But I also wish to help innocent drivers escape a confrontation with the police. In my book COP OUT, I reveal the many ways I, as a former rogue cop, violated the citizens. I only wish to help now. Take care! Obey the law. This author submits professional articles to http://www.ezinearticles.com His articles informs citizens about how to handle different situations when confronted by the police. He is a former award winning police officer. Choosing The Right Porch Furniture For Your Outdoor Space

By Dee Marie As more people look to the outdoors for relaxation and enjoyment, the outdoor room is becoming more popular. Having a special place to enjoy nature or to entertain guests does not need to cost a fortune and can be accomplished on any size budget. Following a few key guidelines in choosing porch furniture can make the decorating process a breeze. Here are some ideas to keep in mind when furnishing your outdoor space. The most important first step is to get an accurate measurement of the space. This will be a starting point for the purchase of furniture. Make sure you know how much room a certain furniture piece will require before you make the purchase. Allow for extra space for gliders, swings and rockers so they will have enough clearance room to move freely. If your porch is not enclosed, or does not have a roof, you can still enjoy the benefits of a porch swing. This is done through the use of a porch glider, a great invention which combines the motion of the swing without the need for any type of overhead ceiling to suspend chains. Porch gliders come in a variety of styles and materials, including cedar and teak, as well as vinyl. You will easily be able to find a porch glider that matches any decor theme you may have in mind. Pick a unified theme and choose your furniture purchases around it. Popular decorating themes are wicker, cedar, teak, or vinyl. As long as you choose the same materials, you can mix and match pieces and still be assured your room will have a good decorating flow. For the do-it-yourself enthusiast, there are many plans available where you can build your own glider or porch swing. Start with the basics and fill in gradually. It is better to have a few good pieces on your porch and get an idea of how they work together, than to purchase a large set and find out you have too much furniture. The basics would be a glider or swing, rocker, and a bench. If you have a very large space or are looking to entertain, you could add an additional rocker or chair for extra seating space. Be sure you have room to move around freely, especially with the moving furniture like swings, gliders, and rockers. Lastly, visit your local home and garden center to get an idea for the latest furniture styles and porch layouts. You can really gather some wonderful ideas as it can help you visualize how you can transform your own outdoor space. Dee Marie is a freelance writer who enjoys the outdoors.
